Apparently I'm in the distinct minority in claiming that the second "word" of the Huckabees movie should be expanded to "Love" rather than "Heart."
Maybe I'm making the "Malcom the Tenth" mistake, but I think it's the rest of the world making the "Super Bowl ex-ex-ex-eye-ex" mistake.
Posted by Matt Bruce at February 25, 2005 09:11 AMIn this case it only really matters what the producer / director / writer think, and they all agreed it's "Heart." There were a couple of interviews to this affect, something about kitsch, to be sure, but something also about distancing from "Love" as an emotion too strong for the subject.
That said, the thought of the cast of the Chorus Line singing "I Heart New York" makes me want to weep.
Posted by: Bogg at February 25, 2005 09:35 AMI heard recently that Samuel Beckett insists that the correct pronunciation is GOD-ot.
Posted by: me at February 25, 2005 11:02 AMIsn't his point that words are meaningless?
Posted by: Julia at February 25, 2005 12:58 PMThe announcer on the commercials for this movie pronounced the title "I Heart Huckabees."
Posted by: Joshua at February 25, 2005 09:03 PMGOD-ot is correct. Anyone I've known who has acted, directed, put up sets, or otherwise worked on a production of it has pronounced it that way.
Ditto to Julia on this.
Posted by: Bogg at February 26, 2005 03:25 PMBeckett doesn't do much insisting anymore but I don't think his point ever was that words were meaningless. He was far too careful with his usage for me to buy that.
Hmmm... Matt posted the "...Empty Set" bit just before explicitly bringing up Beckett in the comment above... so I can salvage my suspicion that they had a common root.
